Event: Support for Veerababu physiotherapy - Cycle 10

Amount: Rs. 5000

Donor: Sunitha Devi Mekala

Thank you Sunitha garu for contributing to this noble cause.

Background Information:

How do we know about him:

We got to know about Veerababu's situation from our Me2We well-wisher Srinivas Rao Dulla.

Veerababu is a elder brother of Jhonny, who serves as a watchman in apartment complex @ Manikonda, Hyderabad where Srinivas is staying.

His family and earnings:

Veerababu is staying in watchman's room with his younger brother Jhonny and mother. He has a younger sister who is married.

What went wrong:

On the late hours of December 23, 2023, Veerababu was involved in a tragic accident near Begumpet, Hyderabad, while returning from a night shift. A group of individuals driving recklessly collided with him.

Fortunately, bystanders promptly responded to the scene, and Veerababu managed to call for an ambulance. He was swiftly transported to KIMS Hospital, Begumpet, where he received initial first-aid treatment. However, subsequent scans revealed the need for multiple surgeries, estimated to cost Rs 20

lakhs.

Despite the severity of the situation, the perpetrators of the accident were present at the hospital and contributed approximately Rs 30,000 towards the medical expenses. Veerababu faced immense difficulty in arranging the necessary funds within the week's timeframe provided by the hospital. Consequently, a case was filed against the individuals responsible for the accident. Currently, Veerababu has received Rs 2 lakhs as compensation, but the legal proceedings are ongoing, with hopes for further restitution.

Upon learning about Veerababu's situation, the residents of his apartment complex rushed to offer support. Upon discovering that he possessed an ESI card, which would relieve some of the financial burden, they arranged for his transfer to an ESI hospital. Recognizing the immense challenge of affording the Rs 20 lakh surgery elsewhere, this move proved crucial.

At the ESI hospital, Veerababu underwent multiple surgeries to address injuries sustained in the accident, focusing on his legs and hands. Following the surgeries, he was discharged and returned home.  However, complications arose when infections were detected in his injuries, necessitating a return to the hospital for treatment. After a period of care, he was discharged last month.

Despite the surgeries being covered under ESI, the expenses for essentials such as food, transportation, emergency medicines, and scans amounted to approximately Rs 2 lakhs. Understanding the limitations of extended stays in public hospitals due to bed availability, Veerababu was discharged with a recommendation for ongoing physiotherapy. They have debt around 7 Lakhs (taken from various sources). As of now they informed about their condition and repayment is on hold. Jhonny earns Rs 6,500 as a watchman and his mother gets a pension of Rs 2750.

Current Medical expenses:

They now require assistance to cover Veerababu's physiotherapy expenses, which amount to Rs 15,000 per month.

They've exhausted their resources and could not afford for physiotherapy treatment with their family earnings, approached Me2We for the support.

Current situation:

Veerababu has a diverse work background, having previously served as a transport coordinator, performed AC repairs, and worked part-time as a driver and after surgery, he completely bed ridden and could not continue his job now.
